At Popcorn Shed, we truly care about the environment and the sustainable use of materials. That's why we make it our mission to utilise sustainable ingredients and packaging materials where possible.
Our signature popcorn 'shed' cartons are crafted from 100% recyclable board, sourced from trees grown in sustainable forests. This folding box board is proudly FSC accredited, meeting the high standards of responsible forestry practices.
Within our sheds, we use PET-free plastic bags, which can be recycled where appropriate recycling streams are available. This decision enables us to significantly reduce the environmental impact associated with traditional plastics, and makes sure the materials are recycled in a sustainable way.
We place great importance on sourcing ingredients from the UK whenever feasible. By doing so, we actively reduce our carbon footprint. Currently, a remarkable 80% of our ingredients are sourced locally, supporting British producers and minimising transportation emissions.
To minimise waste, all of the food waste generated in our factory is supplied to a local village farm. There, it's used to feed the cattle and lambs. Not only does this practice reduce waste, but it also contributes to the well-being of the animals that provide some of our ingredients, like the milk used to make the butter in a lot of our gourmet popcorn recipes.
We strive to make the most of our wasted cardboard by reusing it in our factory as pallet boards or for further packaging purposes. Thanks to this commitment, we rarely find the need to dispose of it as waste or send it for commercial recycling.
By choosing renewable energy, we actively reduce our carbon emissions and play our part in creating a cleaner, greener future. That is why the electricity powering our factory is sourced entirely from 100% renewable sources.
At Popcorn Shed, we keep ourselves up to date with the latest technological advances. Unfortunately, at present, no fully recyclable packaging solution for our other products, such as our snack packs and Mini Pop! range, meets our high standards of freshness and crunchiness. However, we're constantly on the lookout for new options to further minimise waste and promote sustainability.
We maintain a close relationship with cutting-edge packaging suppliers and regularly test environmentally-friendly packaging options. This ensures that we are continually striving towards a more sustainable future, aligning with our commitment to creating a better, greener and cleaner environment!
