Hair raising Halloween slime popcorn

This gloopy green popcorn with googly eyes is spooky, slimy, and incredibly snackable, making it the perfect Halloween movie night treat for adults and children alike. This handmade Halloween popcorn is simple to make and delicious to eat, with a sweet white chocolate slime coating.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 100g sweet and salty popcorn

  • 200g white chocolate

  • 2tsp green food colouring

  • 70g white chocolate buttons

  • 1 tube black writing icing

Method:

  1. Combine the white chocolate and green food colouring in a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl over a pan of hot water and mix occasionally until the chocolate has liquefied and the colour has become completely green.

  2. Pour the popcorn in the pan with the melted chocolate and toss well to cover. Spread out the slime-covered popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet in a uniform layer. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for the chocolate to set.

  3. In the meantime, make the eyes by laying the chocolate buttons flat on a tabletop or tray and squeeze a dot of writing icing to each one. Set aside until ready to use.

  4. Move the set popcorn to serving bowls and garnish with chocolate eyes to serve.

Of course, if you don’t fancy our slimy popcorn you can always choose from our selection of favourite yummy flavours for Halloween.

Halloween party snacks

Preparing for a haunting Halloween party? Here’s a crowd pleasing recipe with no tricks but a whole lot of treats, whether you're catering a children's party or throwing an adult Halloween bash. These crunchy popcorn spider cookies are spookily versatile and can be enjoyed by witches, ghosts, ghouls and vampires alike.

Ingredients:

  • 225g soft butter

  • 250g demerara sugar

  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten

  • 300g self-raising flour

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • 100g butterscotch popcorn

  • 1 x 100g bar milk chocolate

  • 1 tube black icing, to decorate

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, fan 160°C, gas mark 4.

  2. Start by beating the butter and sugar together with a stand mixer or with an electric hand whisk until blended. Mix in the beaten egg.

  3. Add the flour, baking powder, half of the popcorn and a pinch of salt - and mix together.

  4. Half of the dough should be rolled into golf ball-sized balls. Lightly flatten each one on a large baking tray lined with parchment paper. Half of the leftover popcorn should be pressed into the cookies. Bake them for 12-13 minutes or until gently brown. Make sure you allow them to cool for 2-3 minutes on the tray before transferring. Repeat with the remaining popcorn and the other half of the dough.

  5. Drizzle the chocolate over the cookies after melting it in a bowl set over a pan of gently simmering water. Allow time for cooling and setting (you can pop them in the fridge to speed up setting the chocolate).

  6. Once set, decorate the cookies with the black icing and draw spooky spider shapes!
